Dr. Stuart Turvey, who is site leader and a co-Principal Investigator, and his colleagues are interested in assessing the impact of stress. Mothers in Vancouver will be invited to participate in a process to understand more about the impact of "life stress" on healthy development.

WHAT IS UNIQUE TO THE STUDY IN VANCOUVER?

In addtion to the main CHILD Study assessments, Dr. Turvey and colleagues in Vancouver are interested in a more indepth assessment of stressful events and will ask mothers to participate in a detailed life stress telephone interview. This interview will complement the stress assessment questionaires given to all mothers participating in each centre.

DR. Mandhane

Dr. Piush Mandhane, who is site leader and co-principal investigator, has developed the Sleep, Learning, Education and the Environment (SLEEP-E) project to study the role of sleep disordered breathing in cognitive growth and development. The children in this group will be invited to participate in a sleep study.

WHAT IS UNIQUE TO THE STUDY IN EDMONTON?

Study members who volunteer for the CHILD Study in Edmonton will have the option to participate in assessments of the child's sleep habits. This information will be used to see how different sleep habits affects learning and development and how it relates to the development of asthma and allergies.

WHAT IS UNIQUE TO THE STUDY IN TORONTO?

Study members who volunteer for the CHILD Study will be given an opportunity to participate in specialized assessments of lung inflammation and lung function. As well, during the first year of life your child will be closely monitored for cold and flu-like symptoms.
